On the remote island of Nouméa, residents and former inmates live in the shadow of the prison. The executioner De Nou has his eye on Zelie but she is in love with Bibi-Ri, a pickpocket just released from prison. In a fight with one of De Nou’s helpers, Bibi-Ri kills the man and is sentenced to death. But as De Nou prepares to carry out the execution, he discovers a red birthmark on the condemned man’s neck revealing Bibi-Ri to be his long-lost son. German premiere of the restored 35-mm film featuring live piano accompaniment.
